Valentine’s Day Flower Bouquets Barat Tips - Dangwa and Kanlaon(Del Monte) market’s bulaklakan

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Valentine’s day is fast approaching and is merely 20 days to go! [Hey Mr. Baratmode, remember to treat me on this day! hehehe - Mrs. Baratmode]

Anyway, during valentine’s flowers are really really expensive. So if you are on a budget, you may want to get them straight from the “bagsakan“… where locally grown flowers are delivered in bulk from the different provinces like Baguio and Tagaytay … where your neighborhood flower shops usually get their flowers wholesale… Interesting place huh? You want to know this place? … It famously called Dangwa or the bulaklakan area of Manila.

It is very near UST. If you are coming from Espana (going towards Quiapo) turn right at Forbes (now Lacson) then trun right at Laong-laan. Dangwa is along Dos Castillas street — First Street from Lacson. (A full street stretch of Flower shops… whow!)… Or if you’re taking Public transportation, ride a jeepny from Quiapo that will passby “Dapitan.

Bouquet of flowers is usually at Php 200 to Php 250 only. A bunch of roses (about 2 dozens) is around Php120. But as the Valentine’s day approaches prices usually goes up. Oh one tip, we don’t usually buy the pre-arranged bouquets because it looks too generic… you may opt to pick the flowers that you like and ask the flower shop to have it arranged for you the way you wanted it to look :) you may bring a picture of desired arrangment to make transactions faster :)

Barat Tips:

1.) Remember to haggle and haggle :) They usually take advantage of the season ;P
2.) Wear comfy clothes and dress down :)
3.) Be careful with your belongings.
4.) Deliveries usually arrive around 9pm-12nn. Untrimmed/uncleaned flowers are normally cheaper during this time, if you opt to arrange your own bouquet. Day old flowers are sometimes sold at this time much much cheaper :)
5.) Parking is a little challenging, it’s more convenient if you’ll ask somebody to drive for you.

However, if you want a lesser crowd you may want to check out the Bulaklakan in Kanlaon Market (along Del Monte Avenue corner Kanlaon St. and very near A. Bonifacio avenue and Mayon).

This place is not as famous as Dangwa, but you’ll also get the same quality local flowers. :) Sometimes, it’s flowers here are cheaper than Dangwa’s since people don’t go here as much.

Barat Tips:

1.) Same as Dangwa’s but they have ample parking space :)

Folded and Hung’s Factory Outlet

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Are you a fan of Folded and Hung stuff? Well, we have good news for you. :)

We discovered their factory outlet located along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City. If you are coming from Edsa going towards Welcome Rotonda it should be on your right. It is just across Play and Display Outlet Store and right after Halili School of Ballet.

When we visited this place last December, items are atleast 30%, mostly at 50% off and some are at 70% off. The only thing the we didn’t like was the fitting rooms — it doesn’t have individual mirror, you have to go out of the cubicle and check yourself outside using the common mirror :P … Oh well, come to think of it, you’re buying bargain stuff why complain huh!?:)

They do accept credit card payments :) It was a pretty nice place to check out since they have stuff from tops, bottoms, shoes/sandals, accessories, bags and belts both for men and women. :)

Trinoma’s Bloggers Food Tour (part 1)

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Last January 9th we were lucky to join the Trinoma’s Bloggers Food Tour. :) It was a very nice experience… Meeting new friends in the BlogoSphere (hi ryan and nina! :) ), getting lots and lots of freebies, and eat for free!

Trinoma is one of our comfort place… we are here practically atleast 4 times in a month (We hear sunday mass here weekly at 1015am). :) Aside from our shopping days, grocery (Landmark) schedules, and other errands to run.

The tour was a great way for us to discover the best restaurants to visit during the different eating and splurging modes that we normally have. :)

But before we share our food tour experience, we would like to thank Trinoma and Yehey for including us in the list :) Yummy, Hershey’s and Ayala malls/cinema for the freebies. Ms Ann Clavio of Yehey and Ms. Cha of Trinoma for touring us around.

Oh well, everything started with food… hehehe we mean cocktails after the registration. :)

And then, Trinoma Management and Yehey Representatives welcomed the bloggers and officially started the tour. (This is the exciting part) :)

Here’s the list of Restaurants that we were able to visit:

1.) Conti’s - Lobby Level
2.) Sizzling Pepper Steak - 1st Level
3.) Mangan - 1st Level
4.) Marina - 1st Level

Aysee’s Sisig! yummy :9

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Aysee’s sisig is still the best after all these years. “Patok” na sa lasa panalo pa sa presyo! (It tastes really good at a very affordable price!).

Last January 7, 2008, after checking out the stalls at metrowalk we decided to eat dinner at aysee’s. We miss this soooo much since it’s too traffic to go to ortigas during the “ber” months.

Anyway, when we got a table we ordered our usual order our favorite sisig plus egg with extra mayo (yum!), 2 plain rice, 1 san mig light and 1 mountain dew. This is the only place that we find mountain dew as the perfect partner for the sisig! aha!

dsc00003.JPG

Do you want to know the price?… you might be shocked with how affordable to eat there. :) Sisig is only Php 75/order good for 1-2 persons, Php5 for the extra egg and Php7 for a sachet of lady’s choice mayonaise. Plain rice at Php7 per cup, Php 14 for the mountain dew and Php 24 for the san mig light. Cheap huh!? a total of Php 139 for 2 people? that’s what you call a real deal baratmode!

So if you happen to be in the area, you got to try this place. If you are not too maarte and if you like to try something not so new… we bet you’ll enjoy the place but beware! this is a hardcore carenderia style with 1 notch higher. ;P hehehe

How to get there?
It’s infront of ULTRA.
Take meralco avenue from ortigas. Turn left at Ultra, then turn left on the 1 street.
Aysee’s would be on your right.
